1

km/L: Distance per Fuel

Kilometres per litre shows how far you travel on one litre. A higher number means better efficiency.

2

L/100km: Fuel per Distance

Litres per 100 km shows how much fuel you burn over a fixed distance. A lower number means better efficiency.

3

The Formula

The units are reciprocals: L/100km = 100 ÷ km/L, and km/L = 100 ÷ L/100km.

4

Why Two Units Exist

Japan, India and parts of Latin America commonly use km/L, while Europe, Canada and Australia use L/100km. This tool bridges the two.

Fuel Economy Converter FAQ

Answers to the most common questions about converting km per litre to litres per 100 km.

Divide 100 by your km/L figure. For example, 12.5 km/L equals 100 ÷ 12.5 = 8 L/100km.

The same formula works in both directions: km/L = 100 ÷ L/100km. The two units are reciprocals of each other, scaled by 100.

Lower is better for L/100km because it means the vehicle uses less fuel to travel 100 km. For km/L, higher is better.

Multiply km/L by 2.82481 for UK (imperial) MPG, or by 2.35215 for US MPG. This converter shows both automatically.

Both units divide into 100, so a value of zero would mean either infinite consumption or infinite range, which has no real-world meaning. Enter any number greater than zero.
