For a rectangular space, multiply the length by the width, both measured in metres. A room that is 5 metres long and 4 metres wide has an area of 20 square metres. For irregular shapes, split the space into rectangles or triangles, calculate each area separately, and add them together.
Multiply the area in square feet by 0.0929 to get square metres. For example, 500 square feet is approximately 46.45 square metres. To go the other way, multiply square metres by 10.764 to get square feet.
One acre is equal to approximately 4,046.86 square metres. Acres are commonly used for measuring land and plots in the UK and US, while square metres are the standard metric unit for rooms and smaller areas.
