UK vs EU Sizing Explained
Why your sheets might not fit a European bed
Length Is the Main Gap
UK single, small double and double mattresses are 190 cm long. The EU standard is 200 cm, so UK fitted sheets often come up short on European beds.
Different Names, Different Widths
EU sizes are named by their dimensions (160 × 200) rather than by name. A UK king is 150 cm wide, so the nearest EU bed is 160 cm.
Check Duvets Separately
Duvet sizes do not follow mattress sizes. UK and EU duvets overlap at 200 × 200 cm, but king and super king duvets differ by 15 to 20 cm.
When in Doubt, Go Larger
A fitted sheet that is slightly too big can be tucked in. One that is too small will pop off the corners, so choose the next size up if you are between sizes.

Bedding Size FAQ
Answers to the most common questions about UK and European bed sizes.
A UK king size mattress measures 150 × 200 cm. The closest standard EU size is 160 × 200 cm, which is 10 cm wider. A UK king fitted sheet will be too small for it, so buy a 160 × 200 cm sheet.
Yes. A UK super king mattress is 180 × 200 cm, which matches the common EU 180 × 200 cm size exactly, so sheets and mattress protectors are interchangeable.
UK single, small double and double mattresses are 190 cm long, while the standard EU length is 200 cm. This 10 cm difference is the main reason UK fitted sheets often fit EU beds poorly.
Often yes. A UK double duvet (200 × 200 cm) matches the EU 200 × 200 cm size. UK king (225 × 220 cm) and super king (260 × 220 cm) duvets are close to the EU 240 × 220 cm and 260 × 240 cm sizes, but the cover must match the exact duvet size.
Modern UK bedding is sold in centimetres, though older beds may be listed in feet and inches (a UK double is 4 ft 6 in). Always check the metric measurements before ordering from an EU retailer.
