Understanding Stableford Scoring

📐
How Points Are Awarded

Stableford replaces stroke-play counting with a points system relative to net par. You score 2 points for a net par, 3 for a birdie, 4 for an eagle, and just 1 for a double bogey — anything worse scores zero. A good round typically produces 36+ points (2 per hole), with scratch players aiming for 40+.

🏌️
How Your Handicap Applies

Your playing handicap is distributed across the 18 holes using each hole’s Stroke Index (SI). A handicap of 18 means one extra shot on every hole. A handicap of 9 means one extra shot on the 9 lowest SI holes. Extra shots reduce your net score, making it easier to score points on harder holes.

🏆
What’s a Good Stableford Score?

Because of the handicap system, most golfers of any level should aim for around 36 points — that’s par for the course on a Stableford basis. Scoring 40+ points is an excellent round regardless of handicap. Competitions are typically won with 38–44 points. Below 30 points is a tough day on the course.
