Roundup Mixing FAQ
Everything you need to know about mixing Roundup, application rates, and safe usage for weed control.
For general weeds, mix 2.5 fluid ounces (5 tablespoons) of Roundup Super Concentrate per gallon of water. For tough weeds, brush, or vines, increase the rate to 5 fluid ounces (10 tablespoons) per gallon.
For the standard 41% glyphosate Roundup concentrate, mix 1.5 fluid ounces (3 tablespoons) per gallon of water for general weeds, and 2.5 fluid ounces (5 tablespoons) per gallon for tough weeds and brush.
Since there are 2 tablespoons in a fluid ounce, 2.5 oz of Roundup Super Concentrate equals 5 tablespoons. For the 41% concentrate, 1.5 oz equals 3 tablespoons, and 2.5 oz equals 5 tablespoons.
Most Roundup concentrates already contain a surfactant to help the herbicide stick to and penetrate weed leaves. However, for very waxy or tough weeds, adding a non-ionic surfactant can improve effectiveness. Always check the product label first.
You will typically see weeds yellowing and wilting within 2 to 4 days. Complete kill down to the roots usually takes 7 to 14 days, depending on the weed species, size, and environmental conditions like sunlight and temperature.
