The Court Fee
The probate application fee is Ā£526 for estates over Ā£5,000, and nothing at or below Ā£5,000. It is a flat fee, not a percentage of the estate.
Extra Copies
The grant is the document institutions ask to see. Extra sealed copies cost Ā£2 each when ordered with the application.
Professional Fees
Solicitors and probate specialists set their own charges, often a percentage of the estate or a fixed fee plus VAT. These are separate from the court fee.
Paid From the Estate
Costs are an expense of the estate. The executor may have to pay the court fee first and then reclaim it once funds are available.

Since 13 July 2026 the probate application fee in England and Wales is Ā£526 for estates worth more than Ā£5,000. There is no fee for estates valued at Ā£5,000 or less. Always confirm the current figure on GOV.UK before applying.
Additional official copies of the grant cost Ā£2 each when ordered with your application, and Ā£16 each if ordered after the grant has been issued. Ordering enough copies up front is the cheapest option.
