Add up the total square footage of all the walls and ceilings you’re covering, then divide by the square footage of a single drywall sheet (a standard 4×8 sheet covers 32 square feet). Round up and add a waste allowance of around 10-15% to cover cuts and mistakes.
As a general rule, plan for around 32 screws per standard 4×8 sheet of drywall on walls, spaced roughly every 16 inches along the studs. Ceilings typically need a slightly tighter spacing to prevent sagging.
A standard rule of thumb is one gallon of joint compound for every 100 square feet of drywall for a basic three-coat finish. Larger jobs or a smoother finish level may require more.
