Convert your car’s fuel economy to litres per 100km, multiply by the journey distance in kilometres divided by 100 to get the litres needed, then multiply by the price per litre. For example, a car using 6 litres per 100km driving 160km would use about 9.6 litres, costing roughly £13 at £1.35 per litre.

For UK (imperial) MPG, divide 282.48 by the MPG figure to get litres per 100km. For US MPG, divide 235.21 by the MPG figure instead, since a US gallon is smaller than a UK gallon. A car returning 45 UK MPG uses roughly 6.3 litres per 100km.
