Pokemon Damage Calculator 2026
Calculate exact damage ranges for competitive Pokemon battles. Instantly factor in STAB, type effectiveness, weather conditions, and critical hits using the official Gen 9 damage formula.
Battle Configuration
Define attacker, defender, and environmental modifiers
The level of the attacking Pokemon (Standard competitive is Level 100 or Level 50)
The base power of the move being used (e.g., Earthquake is 100, Flamethrower is 90)
The final Attack or Special Attack stat of the attacker (including EVs, IVs, and Nature)
The final Defense or Special Defense stat of the defender (including EVs, IVs, and Nature)
Applied when the move matches the attacker’s typing
The multiplier based on the defender’s typing against the move’s type
Modern generations apply a 1.5x multiplier to critical hits
e.g., Sun boosting Fire moves, Rain boosting Water moves
Halves the damage of physical attacks if the attacker is burned

Damage Multipliers
Standard type effectiveness multipliers applied during damage calculation in modern Pokemon games.
| Matchup Result | Multiplier | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Immune | 0x | No damage is dealt (e.g., Normal vs. Ghost). |
| Not Very Effective | 0.25x | Damage is quadrupled against a double resistance. |
| Resisted | 0.5x | Damage is halved (e.g., Fire vs. Water). |
| Neutral | 1x | Standard damage with no type advantages. |
| Super Effective | 2x | Damage is doubled (e.g., Water vs. Fire). |
| Double Super Effective | 4x | Damage is quadrupled against dual-type weaknesses. |
Competitive Battle FAQ

Damage is calculated using a standardized formula: Base Damage = ((((2 * Level / 5 + 2) * Power * (Attack / Defense)) / 50) + 2). This base number is then multiplied by various modifiers like STAB, type effectiveness, weather, and a random factor between 0.85 and 1.0.
STAB stands for Same-Type Attack Bonus. When a Pokemon uses a move that matches one of its own types, the damage is increased by 50% (a 1.5x multiplier). Some specific abilities can increase this bonus to 2.0x.
In modern Pokemon games (Gen 6 onwards), a Critical Hit deals 1.5x the normal damage. It also bypasses the attacker’s stat drops and the defender’s stat boosts for the purpose of the damage calculation.
After all modifiers are applied, the game rolls a random number between 0.85 and 1.00. This means the final damage dealt will always be between 85% and 100% of the calculated maximum, introducing variance into competitive battles.
If a Pokemon is Burned, the damage of its physical attacks is halved (a 0.5x multiplier). This does not affect special attacks. Certain abilities or items can mitigate this penalty.
