How it Works
Understanding SPL and ShPP calculations
Total Entitlement Baseline
Eligible families get up to 52 weeks of total leave and 39 weeks of total statutory pay following birth or adoption.
Curtailment of Leave
The primary parent must end their Maternity or Adoption Leave early. The unused weeks become the Shared Parental Leave (SPL) pool.
ShPP Rate Calculation
Statutory Shared Parental Pay is calculated as £194.32 per week or 90% of the receiving parent’s average weekly earnings, whichever is lower.
Compare & Plan
We map your planned weeks against the remaining paid and unpaid entitlement, helping you budget and plan your leave blocks effectively.

Shared Parental Leave FAQ
Answers to the most frequently asked questions about splitting parental leave and pay in the UK.
Shared Parental Leave allows eligible parents to share up to 50 weeks of leave and 37 weeks of pay after the birth or adoption of a child. It offers flexibility to split time off work between both parents, rather than one parent taking all the maternity or adoption leave.
ShPP is paid at a flat rate of £194.32 per week (from April 2026) or 90% of your average weekly earnings, whichever is lower [[14]]. You can only receive ShPP for the remaining paid weeks after the primary parent has formally curtailed their Maternity or Adoption Leave.
Yes. Parents can choose to take SPL concurrently (at the same time) or consecutively (one after the other). You can also split the leave into up to three separate blocks per parent, subject to employer agreement and operational feasibility.
Both parents must share the main responsibility for the child. The primary parent must be eligible for Maternity/Adoption Leave and Pay, and must formally curtail (end) their leave to create the SPL entitlement. The second parent must meet specific employment and earnings tests, such as working for the same employer for at least 26 weeks by the end of the 15th week before the due date.
