Fertility & Ovulation FAQ
Answers to the most frequently asked questions about tracking your fertile window and conception.
The fertile window is the 6-day period leading up to and including the day of ovulation. This is the time during your menstrual cycle when pregnancy is possible, as sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for up to 5 days, and the egg survives for about 12-24 hours after ovulation.
Ovulation typically occurs about 14 days before the start of your next menstrual period. By knowing the first day of your last period and your average cycle length, the calculator estimates your next period and subtracts your luteal phase length (typically 14 days) to find your most likely ovulation day.
The chances are very low, but not absolutely zero. Cycle lengths can vary due to stress, illness, or hormonal changes, which can shift ovulation unexpectedly. However, the days immediately following your period and the days after ovulation are generally considered the safest from pregnancy.
This calculator provides a highly accurate estimate for women with regular menstrual cycles. However, it is an estimation tool. For precise tracking, it is recommended to combine this calculator with ovulation predictor kits (OPKs), basal body temperature (BBT) charting, or cervical mucus monitoring.
