Exact age is calculated by finding the difference between the date of birth and the chosen reference date, broken down into full years, remaining months, and remaining days, accounting for varying month lengths and leap years.
Leap years add an extra day (29 February) roughly every four years to keep the calendar aligned with the solar year. An accurate age calculator must account for these extra days, especially for people born on or near 29 February, so the year, month and day count stays correct.
Your age in total days is calculated by finding the exact number of days between your date of birth and today. This calculator shows this figure automatically alongside your age in years, months and weeks.
Some countries, including South Korea traditionally, used age-counting systems where a baby is considered 1 year old at birth and everyone gains a year on New Year’s Day, rather than on their individual birthday. This can make a person’s traditional age one or two years higher than their international (Western) age.
