Yes, you can get a refund if you no longer need a TV Licence (e.g., you are moving abroad, moving into a care home, or no longer watch live TV or BBC iPlayer). Refunds are calculated based on the number of full months remaining on your licence.
A TV Licence is only free if you are aged 75 or over AND you receive Pension Credit. If you do not receive Pension Credit, you must pay the standard licence fee, though you can choose to pay in installments.
Refunds are calculated by dividing the annual licence fee by 12 to get a monthly rate, then multiplying by the number of full months remaining on your licence. Part-months are not refunded, so timing your cancellation at the end of a month maximizes your refund.
