For the 2026/27 tax year, the Plan 2 student loan repayment threshold is £29,385 a year, which works out to £2,449 a month or £565 a week. You only repay on income above this amount.
You repay 9% of your income above the £29,385 threshold. For example, on a £40,000 salary you would repay 9% of £10,615, which is approximately £955 a year.
Plan 2 applies to most English and Welsh students who started an undergraduate course between 1 September 2012 and 31 July 2023, as well as some who took out Advanced Learner Loans during that period.
Plan 2 student loans are written off 30 years after the April you were first due to start repaying, regardless of how much of the balance remains outstanding.
