Calculate Your Pro Rata Pay

Enter the full-time equivalent (FTE) salary and hours for the role, then your actual hours and weeks worked. The calculator scales the salary proportionally to give you an accurate pro rata figure.

£
The full-time equivalent (FTE) salary for the role.
Usually 35-40 hours in the UK.
22.5 hrs
The hours you actually work each week in the part-time or reduced-hours role.
Used to work out a daily rate.
Reduce this for term-time-only contracts, e.g. 39 weeks.
💡 Pro Tip: Your hourly rate stays the same as the full-time equivalent role, it’s the total pay that scales down. If two roles quote different pro rata salaries for the same hours, compare the underlying hourly rate to see which actually pays more.

Pro Rata Salary FAQ

Answers to the most frequently asked questions about calculating and understanding pro rata pay.

Pro rata means ‘in proportion’. A pro rata salary takes a full-time equivalent (FTE) salary and scales it down in proportion to the hours or days you actually work, so a role advertised at £30,000 full-time pays £15,000 pro rata for someone working half the hours.

Divide your actual hours per week by the full-time hours per week, then multiply that fraction by the full-time salary. For example, working 22.5 hours against a 37.5-hour full-time week is 0.6 of full-time, so a £30,000 full-time salary becomes £18,000 pro rata.

Yes. In the UK, statutory holiday entitlement is also calculated pro rata for part-time workers, based on the proportion of a full-time working week that they work, rather than simply being capped at a fixed number of days.

Not quite. Pro rata pay is the scaled-down annual, monthly, or weekly salary figure, while hourly pay is the rate per hour. The hourly rate itself usually stays the same as the full-time equivalent; it’s the total pay that is scaled down to reflect fewer hours worked.
