The calculator combines your wall size with brick dimensions and joint thickness to work out exactly how many bricks fit into the wall face.

Wall length is multiplied by height, then any door or window area is subtracted to find the net brickwork area.

A standard UK brick laid in stretcher bond with a 10mm mortar joint requires approximately 60 bricks per square metre for a single-skin wall. Double-skin cavity walls need roughly double that amount.
Multiply the wall’s length by its height to get the area in square metres, subtract the area of any doors or windows, then multiply by the number of bricks required per square metre. Add a wastage allowance, typically 5 to 10 percent, to cover cuts and breakages.
As a rough guide, a single-skin brick wall uses about 0.03 cubic metres of wet mortar per square metre of wall. The exact amount depends on brick size, joint thickness, and mortar mix ratio.
A single-skin wall is one brick thick, commonly used for garden walls and internal partitions. A cavity wall, standard for most exterior house walls, uses two skins of brick or block separated by a gap, roughly doubling the brick quantity needed.
