Broadband Cost Calculator FAQ
Everything you need to know about working out the true cost of a broadband contract before you sign up.
Broadband cost is calculated by adding your monthly subscription fee over the full contract length, plus any one-off setup or activation fees and ongoing equipment rental charges, then dividing by the number of months to get an average monthly cost.
Many broadband providers offer a discounted promotional price for an introductory period, after which the price reverts to the standard rate for the remainder of the contract term. This is often called an out-of-contract or standard price increase.
The total cost typically includes the monthly line rental or subscription fee for every month of the contract, any one-off setup or activation charges, and optional router or equipment rental fees if these are not bundled into the monthly price.
Not necessarily. Longer contracts sometimes offer a lower monthly rate, but they can also lock you into a standard price rise for longer once any promotional period ends, so it is worth comparing the average monthly cost across the full term rather than just the headline price.
Yes. Some providers bundle the router into the monthly price while others charge a separate rental fee. Including this in your calculation gives a more accurate picture of the true monthly cost when comparing different deals.
